The Pier Project Phases

The PIER Project is divided into three phases:

Phase one: Building Quality Collaborative Practice

• The identification and training of coaches and champions at participants sites. Coaches and Champions are to be determined from each site’s existing staff members. Champions are invested in interprofessional learning and collaborative team functioning. They do not necessarily have to be a person of authority within the site but instead are a model and enthusiastic supporter of interprofessional learning and collaborative practice. Coaches serve an organizational role and will assist with reinforcement of project functions including timelines, philosophies, and expectations and will serve as a “back-up” for dissemination of information about the project.

• The selection and implementation of the first quality project related to a meaningful interprofessional activity. During phase one each site chooses a quality project that allows staff and learners to work on a project of benefit to each site. Participation enhances the opportunity for discussion and reflection on professional roles of self and others on the existing practice teams. Projects will provide opportunity for participants to better understand how the interprofessional practice teams at each site work together

• Evaluation: Participants will complete Self Report measures. Participants complete the IEPS questionnaire. The Regenstrief Survey is completed by all participants. The first Genogram is completed.

Phase two: Interprofessional Education Consolidation
• Selection and implementation of a second quality project. This project relates to interprofessional learning and quality patient care

• Evaluation: Participants will complete Self Report measures. Participants complete the IEPS questionnaire. A second Genogram is completed

• The first collaborative Workshop is held. This is for all practice teams and learners to share individual site changes and to discuss the process of involvement in the project

Phase three: Evaluation and Sustainability
• Evaluation: Completion of final Self Report measures. Participants complete the IEPS questionnaire. The Regenstrief Survey is completed by all participants. The third Genogram is completed
• A second collaborative Workshop is held for each site to highlight their learning and culture change
• An Immersion Conference is held for participants to showcase the results of their work to external participants
